All Big Ideas Start Small Print E-mail

David A. WheelerAs I begin this blog let me introduce myself.  My name is David A. Wheeler and I am the Vice President of Whirlwind Concepts, Inc. in Spokane, Washington. With clean air, good tasting water, and plenty of lakes and mountains for recreation, Spokane is a great place to live.  Even from downtown Spokane it doesn't take long to drive to completely unspoiled wilderness areas; and it is areas like these that inspired my team and I to develop Spenser the washer fluid dispenser.

In this age of environmental awareness, people are actively looking for eco-friendly alternatives.  Deep down we all feel it, the desire to reduce our impact on the planet's natural resources while maintaining the lifestyle we have built for ourselves.  Nobody intends to live irresponsibly.  So often we are at the mercy of our consumer culture.  That's why I believe that it is up to businesses to change the way we do things, to help make it easier for the consumer to do the right thing.

We have created Spenser the washer fluid dispenser to help counteract the seemingly endless build up of unnecessary plastic waste that flows into our landfills.  You see we realize that although windshield washer fluid is essential for the safe operation of any over the road vehicle, the non-biodegradable plastic jug is an unnecessary part of the equation.  Millions of these fluid jugs are purchased every year.  Yes, some are recycled but the vast majority seem to find their way into landfills.  As I said before, it is up to business to change this because I sincerely believe that most consumers, when given the choice, will make the environmentally responsible decision.

Spenser the washer fluid dispenser is the earth friendly choice as it completely eliminates the need for these plastic jugs.  Spenser is not only convenient but this system provides people an easy way to make a positive impact on the environment.

I'm proud to tell you that Spenser is currently making its way to service stations in the United States and Canada.  It's hard to believe that one machine could make such a positive impact in today's society; however, Spenser seems poised to be the new standard in washer fluid sales.

If you would like to see Spenser the washer fluid dispenser installed at your local fueling station, let them know.  Tell them about our website and what we are trying to accomplish.  These inquiries will prompt station owners and operators to learn of the benefits Spenser provides.  Working together we can all make small changes that will add up to a big difference and we will be helping to keep unnecessary plastic waste out of our landfills... one jug at a time.

  1. It's not often that a product comes along that helps the environment AND makes life MORE convenient. Imagine being able to fill your gas tank and washer fluid without having to go into the gas station! I can't wait until these units are available to use here in Spokane.
  2. This has got to be the best idea to make such a huge impact! My students and I run the aluminum and plastic recycling at our little K-12 school, and we think we save a lot of recyclables from the trash. This Spenser project will be enormous! Keep the "wheels" a turning! This is a smart start to a solution.
  3. This is a fantastic idea, and I look forward to seeing these pumps at gas stations here in Canada. It is so important that we all take a stand and live as eco-friendly as possible. This machine combines convenience with environmentalism. I love it!
  4. More businesses in the US should start taking a similar approach to help minimize our impact on the environment. As Mr. Wheeler said above, washer fluid is a necessity for everyone who uses a car, truck, SUV, tractor, big rig, airplane or helicopter.

After checking out this site, I popped the trunk of my car and there they were: 2 full bottles of fluid and one half empty one. I probably have a dozen more in my garage at home.

I also know that I usually run out of fluid while I'm on the road. After refilling, the empty bottles have to go somewhere. I could toss them in a dumpster at a rest stop, or just refill at a gas station that has a Spenser. Its a win-win. I don't have those stinking, leaking and cumbersome gallon jugs bouncing around the trunk and I'll be doing my part to help the environment.

    Fantastic idea.
  5. This seems like a no brainer to me. Like one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" moments. I wish you the best of luck.
  6. This is really a cool product. When can we expect to see them? Thank you.
  7. I agree with the previous comment. Kudos for finding a simple way to keep those nasty jugs out of not only the landfills, but the WORLD! ...one jug at a time! How can I help?
  8. What a great Idea! I look forward to the gas station(s) I use, putting these in. Quick and convenient and LESS JUGS IN LANDFILLS! Keep up the great work and thank you for helping the environment.
